PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF POROUS CARBON PLATES
CA455493A
PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF POROUS CARBON PLATES Porous carbon plates are made by forming a sheet from a stuff mixture comprising 65-90 weight parts of a carbon fiber-forming organic fiber and 10-35 weight parts of a pulp according to a paper-making method; impregnating the sheet with a solution of an organic polymeric substance to prepare an impregnated sheet; subjecting the impregnated sheet to an oxidizing treatment; and then carbonizing the infusibilized sheet at a temperature of at least 800.degree.C in an inert gas atmosphere.

High conducting polymer-metal alloy blends
US6154913
[Ian W. Sorensen]
NJ Morris Township, Morris County
A high conducting polymer-alloy blend is prepared by stress blending a polymer having Non-Newtonian rheological behavior with a low melting temperature alloy to form an interpenetrating polymer-alloy network. The blend is performed at a temperature intermediate the solidus and liquidus temperatures of the alloy where the alloy has a fractional solidus imparting to the alloy a viscosity corresponding to the viscosity of the polymer. In the resulting blend, the interpenetrating polymer network is the stabilizing component of the high conducting polymer-alloy interpenetrating network and the interpenetrating alloy network provides the high conductance path.

Flow cytometer measurement of binding assays
US6154867
[George C. Saunders]
DC Washington
A method of measuring the result of a binding assay that does not require separation of fluorescent smaller particles is disclosed. In a competitive binding assay the smaller fluorescent particles coated with antigen compete with antigen in the sample being analyzed for available binding sites on larger particles. In a sandwich assay, the smaller, fluorescent spheres coated with antibody attach themselves to molecules containing antigen that are attached to larger spheres coated with the same antibody. The separation of unattached, fluorescent smaller particles is made unnecessary by only counting the fluorescent events triggered by the laser of a flow cytometer when the event is caused by a particle with a light scatter measurement within a certain range corresponding to the presence of larger particles.

Catheter device
US6153992
[German Gonzalo]
IL Ottawa 30 Oaklane Dr. 61350
Disclosed is a catheter device equipped at its distal portion with a pair of balloons inflatable from the proximal end of the catheter. One balloon completely covers the distal tip of the catheter to serve, when inflated, as an anchor to retain the catheter in an appropriate ampulla and as a cushion to prevent internal tissue damage. The second balloon serves, when inflated, to remove and dislodge impacted biliary stones. In addition, a separate chamber in the second balloon is available for irrigating and flushing biliary stones and in conjunction with an inflatable balloon adjustably mounted on the catheter can perform cholaniograms. The separate chamber also functions as a hinge allowing the second balloon to inflate proximally, resulting in a heart-shaped structure assuring successful stone removal.

Cationic polydiorganosiloxanes for treating proteinaceous substrates
US6154220
[Maris J. Ziemelis, Charles A. Roth]
GB2 Dorset
New cationic polydiorganosiloxanes are disclosed that are substantive to proteinaceous substrates. These cationic polydiorganosiloxanes have methyl substituents, and diaminoalkyl substituents reacted with benzyl chloride. These cationic polydiorganosiloxanes are easily emulsified and are useful for treating human hair, human skin, and animal fur.
