PURPOSE:To detect the double feed of sheets as well as to keep off an adverse effect to a device due to the double feed, by converting a vertical variation in a double-feed detecting roller at the time of sheet passing into a turning angle of a reflecting member. CONSTITUTION:When a transfer sheet 108 conveyed by a paper feed roller 107 passes through between rollers 105 and 106, it lifts up the roller 105 as far as a sportion for thickness of the sheet. With this uplift, a rack 201 moves upward, rotating a pinion 202, and a reflecting mirror 203 on the same axis is rotated as far as some turning angle theta, whereby the double feed of the transfer sheets conveted to space between these rollers 105 and 106 is detected. And, at that point that this double feed is detected, a double feed sheet paper discharge clutch 111 installed between these double feed detecting rollers 105 and 106 and resist rollers 103 and 104 is operated, thus the double feed sheet is discharged out of a regular conveying route. When the double feed is detected, a double feed detecting signal is outputted, and image formation to a drum 101 is suspended.
