The invention relates to a device for coating seed with a liquid pickling solution, having a housing (10) which bounds a chamber (11) for receiving the seed, having rotating means for mixing seed and pickling solution, having an air duct (17) for feeding hot air into the chamber (11), and having a separating unit which is permeable to the hot air and separates the air duct (17) from the chamber (11). The invention provides for the separating unit to comprise at least one perforated metal sheet (18) which has an inner side (31) facing the chamber (11), an outer side (30) facing the air duct (17), and a multiplicity of protrusions (28), wherein one protrusion (28) rises obliquely in the direction of the outer side (30) and forms an opening entrance (34) inclined with respect to the sheet plane (29). The invention furthermore relates to a method in which the device is employed.
