The present invention relates to the fermentation of lignocellulosic sugars to afford crotyl alcohol that is then separated and converted to butadiene using a dehydration catalyst and a method and apparatus for converting alkenols or diols to dienes with high selectivity and conversion. In particular, the present invention relates to patient supports appropriate for use in hospitals, acute care facilities, and other patient care environments. Further, the present 5 invention relates to pressure relief support surfaces and support surfaces that are configured to accommodate and operate with a variety of sizes and styles of beds, bed frames, and patient types. The specification describes certain exemplary embodiments of a patient support having a plurality of vertically-oriented on substantially can-shaped inflatable bladders. Aspects of a sheath are disclosed herein including a radially expandable outer cylinder and including a plurality of sheath fins distributed circumferentially about the inner surface of the central lumen of the sheath. Each of the fins extends along a length of the inner surface of the sheath and when the sheath not expanded, the form a continuous inner surface of the sheath lumen. Aspects also include a sheath that includes a radially expandable cylindrical outer layer a stiff inner member, an inner liner layer coupled to the inner surface of the stiff inner member; and an outer liner layer disposed between an outer surface of the stiff inner member and an inner surface of the outer layer. During the lapping the ring can be permitted to rotate freely about an axis of the ring. The bottom surface of the retaining ring can have curved or flat portions.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a polishing ring assembly suitable for polishing an electrostatic chuck and method of using the same. In one embodiment, the polishing ring assembly has a retaining ring assembly and an electrostatic chuck fixture. The retaining ring assembly includes an inner diameter and a top surface, a plurality of outer drive rings wherein the plurality of outer drive rings are placed on the top surface of the ceramic retaining ring. The electrostatic chuck fixture includes an electrostatic chuck drive plate adjacent to the inner diameter of in the ceramic retaining ring. The electrostatic chuck drive plate has a lock to secure retaining ring assembly with the electrostatic chuck fixture without transferring the weight from one assembly over to the other through the locking mechanism.

A laser diode is soldered between metal plates for intimate thermal and electrical contact. The plates are prefabricated and are provided with an insulative spacer therebetween. The two metal plates are held together in a preferred orientation by the spacer which is firmly adhered and sealed to the two plates during the diode soldering operation. The metal plates are constructed from material thin enough that they yield under thermal pressure of the diode to eliminate mechanical strain on the diode during thermal cycling. Backup plates are provided in contact with the diode mounting plates to feed electrical energy thereto.
