This method for producing a silicon carbide single crystal ingot grows the silicon carbide single crystal on a growth surface of the seed crystal comprising a silicon carbide single crystal by a sublimation recrystallization method, wherein step bunches having a step height of 10 μm to 1 mm and a terrace width of 200 μm to 1 mm are formed on the growth surface of the seed crystal in advance, afterwhich the silicon carbide single crystal is grown on the growth surface of the seed crystal by the sublimation recrystallization method.
