Timing control for a dual poppet valve
US4725816
[Hugo N. De Campos]
NJ Morristown
In a valve having first and second poppet members which control the flow of fluid from an entrance port to an outlet port. The valve has a cylindrical body with a center bore through which fluid from the second poppet member flows and is thereafter combined with the external fluid flow controlled by the first poppet member. A sleeve which forms a part of the second poppet member is concentric to the cylindrical body. The sleeve has a flange that is located in a groove on the peripheral surface of the cylindrical body. A flexible member is located in the groove and acts on the flange to urge the sleeve toward a stop. The cylindrical body is connected to an actuation member for moving the first and second poppet members with respect to corresponding first and second seats and allowing fluid to flow from the entrance port to the outlet port. A surface on the sleeve forms the second poppet which engages the second seat prior to the first poppet engaging said first seat as the actuation member moves the cylindrical body toward the rest position. Further movement of the cylindrical body toward the rest position, compressing the flexible member between the sleeve and cylindrical body to effect a seal therebetween and to provide a seal between the first poppet and first seat to prevent internal fluid leakage through the valve.

Allergy test strip
US6449417
[Nicholas H. Maganias]
VA Reston Reston Medical Bldg., 1712 Club House Rd. 22090
A test strip for allergy testing the skin includes a support lamina having at least one aperture extending therethrough and a lance device positioned on one surface of the support lamina so that the sharp lance of the device extends into the aperture. A removable strip is releasably sealed to the opposite surface of the support lamina and overlies the aperture to prevent entry of foreign material into the aperture. Upon removal of the strip an allergen can be applied through the aperture to the lance. A second strip overlies the lance device and is removably sealed to the support lamina. Upon removal of the second strip the lance device is also removed from the support lamina so that the second strip and the lance device can be applied to the skin.

All dry submersible motor pump with a concordant seal system
US2973561
[Lu Fengsheng]
CNX Xian, Shaanxi 1-50-204, Xian Jiao Tong Univeristy
The present invention relates to an all-dry submersible motor pump with a concordant seal system. In this submersible pump, there is a motor within a motor room, a vertical rotary shaft driven by the motor and connected to a pump. An air chamber is positioned between the motor room and the water pump. An airtight disc is provided between the motor room and the air chamber with a central hole for passing through the vertical rotary shaft. A concordant seal is arranged below the disc and around the central hole. The concordant seal comprises a fluid-seal and a pressure equalizer. The pressure equalizer employs a moist-isolating air envelope for equalizing the pressures on both sides of the disc, cooperates with the shaft fluid-seal to prevent the moist air from invading the motor room and thereby ensure a dry working condition for the windings of the motor.

Arrangement for suspension of a door on a vehicle body
US3350568
[Orvar Nordstrom]
SEX
An arrangement for suspension of a door, preferably a luggage compartment door, on a vehicle body. Between the vehicle body and the door there are arranged separate first and second spring elements. The attachment points of the second spring element, during the first part of the pivoting movement of the door from a closed to an open position, exerts a torque in a direction counter to the pivoting movement and, during the continued pivoting movement of the door, exerts a torque in the direction of the pivoting movement.

Heat pipe (10) includes an acute angle leading wedge shape form (38) with a radiused leading edge (26). Engine fuel supply (65) cools the trailing wedge shape form (40). The intense heat flux at the leading edge is cleanly dissipated and spread over substantial heat pipe cooling surface (64, 66). A coating (36) on the external surface of the leading edge wedge shape form is formed of a layer of iridium and a layer of oxide.

Method of production of light emitting diodes
US4002792
[John A. Edmond]
NC Durham
The invention is a method for preparing a plurality of light emitting diodes on a single substrate of a semiconductor material. The method is used for structures where the substrate includes an epitaxial layer of the same semiconductor material that in turn comprises layers of p-type and n-type material that define a p-n junction therebetween. The epitaxial layer and the substrate are etched in a predetermined pattern to define individual diode precursors, and deeply enough to form mesas in the epitaxial layer that delineate the p-n junctions in each diode precursor from one another. The substrate is then grooved from the side of the epitaxial layer and between the mesas to a predetermined depth to define side portions of diode precursors in the substrate while retaining enough of the substrate beneath the grooves to maintain its mechanical stability. Ohmic contacts are added to the epitaxial layer and to the substrate and a layer of insulating material is formed on the diode precursor. The insulating layer covers the portions of the epitaxial layer that are not covered by the ohmic contact, any portions of the one surface of the substrate adjacent the mesas, and the side portions of the substrate. As a result, the junction and the side portions of the substrate of each diode are insulated from electrical contact other than through the ohmic contacts. When the diodes are separated they can be conventionally mounted with the junction side down in a conductive epoxy without concern that the epoxy will short circuit the resulting diode.
